When Emily first met Junie , she wasn’t looking for a pet at all. Still reeling from the recent loss of her dog, she had no intention of adopting a new furry friend just yet. So, quite innocently, the young woman went to a friend’s house who was fostering the little cat. The rest is history…
“She’s amazing.”
Rescued by Northwest Animal Companions , Junie had been abandoned by her previous family and had a unique feature: two front legs that bent inward at the wrists. Veterinarians determined this deformity was not the result of an accident or injury, but rather a neurological problem.
When Emily met this unique kitten, she was overwhelmed. “ I literally cried when I met her ,” she recalls. “ I thought, ‘Are you kidding me? She’s amazing.’ ”
As Emily watched Junie move around the carpet of her friend’s apartment using her wrists, it became clear that leaving without her was out of the question, especially since the kitten didn’t get along at all with the other cats in the household.
So the young woman took the cat home for a test run and Junie never left again.
A queen of sliding!
In her new home, the furball discovered that the floor was made of parquet, which considerably changed the way she moved… Now, she glides at full speed, like a real skier!
The young woman, however, was worried that this position would be painful for the kitten. The veterinarians immediately reassured her that this was not the case. Seeing Junie gliding along the ground as if she were skiing in powder snow, we realize that she is indeed having a lot of fun!
The kitten doesn’t seem to mind her difference in the least. She jumps onto Emily ‘s bed and the kitchen table with ease. She enjoys the balcony and plays with her toys, like all cats.
