A Fateful Encounter: On October 5, 2019, while patrolling the streets as usual, Officers Mercado and Tavera of the Los Angeles Police Department (Hollywood Division) noticed something tiny and irresistibly cute following them. It was a little chocolate-colored puppy, wandering through the busy city with pleading eyes, hoping someone would save him.

The Name “Hobart” and a Life-Changing Decision
The moment the puppy saw the two officers, he began trailing behind them, begging for help. Realizing how young and vulnerable he was, they decided to bring him back to the station. They named him Hobart, after the street where he was found – Hobart Blvd.

A Puppy in Love with His Hero
At the station, Hobart quickly grew attached to Officer Mercado. He followed him everywhere, refusing to leave his side, melting hearts all around. During the car ride back, Hobart curled up happily in Officer Tavera’s lap, his eyes filled with love and gratitude toward his rescuers.

An Honorary K-9 and the Search for a Real Home
Hobart was officially named an honorary K-9, and everyone at the station adored him. Still, they knew he needed a proper home. So they contacted the Ghetto Rescue FFoundation (GRFF), where he received veterinary care and was prepared for adoption.

Love at First Sight
However, the video of Hobart following Officer Mercado quickly went viral. People everywhere hoped Mercado would adopt him. And as it turned out, the moment Officer Mercado sent Hobart’s photo to his wife, Quincy, she instantly fell in love and asked him to bring the puppy home.

A Happy Ending for the Tiny Pup
Not long after, Hobart officially became a member of the Mercado family. He now lives with other rescue dogs, including a K-9 police dog. GRFF joyfully posted, “Looks like he hit the jackpot that day when he was ‘arrested’ for being too cute!” You can follow Hobart’s adventures on his official Instagram: @lapd_hobart.
