Adriana Figueroa, a volunteer with Women’s Volunteer Miami in Florida, is always there when an animal’s life needs saving. Recently, she was called upon to rescue not just one canine, but 10 at once.
She received a message about a stray dog in distress and then went to the location indicated. ” I found her pretty quickly, so I followed her for a while ,” said Adriana Figueroa. “That’s when I discovered she had gone into the crawl space. “
The black-coated dog had indeed found refuge in this dark space beneath a house. As she approached, Adriana Figueroa was surprised to find herself face to face with a puppy watching her very closely. Soon, several others appeared.
” It made me incredibly sad that she was alone. It was just her and her babies, and she was just trying to find a safe place for them ,” the volunteer said.
Getting the four-legged friends out of hiding was anything but simple. Their mother ” went deeper into the crawl space, and they followed her. After three hours, I was able to get eight puppies out. “
Adriana Figueroa took the puppies, but not their mother, because she thought there might be one or more other puppies left there.
When she returned the next morning, she found that alongside the dog was indeed a ninth puppy. The canine family was complete again.
” As soon as she heard her babies cry, she popped her head out ,” said their benefactress. The mother was named Veviana . As for her little ones, they were named Tater , Sunshine , Sugar , Spud , Scarlett , Rouge , Poochie , Jerry and Bonnie .
Adriana Figueroa took them in for a while, then they were transferred to another organization, Big Dog Ranch Rescue , which found adopters for six of them. Veviana and the remaining three puppies are waiting to find their future homes.
